Preview: Wakiso Giants set for Express

Wakiso based Wakiso Giants Football club is set for their encounter with Express FC in a rescheduled StarTimes Uganda Premier League match on Friday, at the Kabaka Kyabaggu arena – Wakisha.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) had suspended all Express’ fixtures over allegations of hooliganism by their fans following an incident in which a group of fans beat up an Assistant Referee Fahad Sekayiba during after their draw away at UPDF FC in Bombo.

However, after Express FC’s commitment to comply and deliver the culprits including Noah Bukenya, Sulaiman Zimula and Nkata Abasi, who were banned from participating in any FUFA sanctioned Football event for a period of two (2) years, the Federation and Referees body agreed to reinstate Express FC’s fixtures.

The game between Wakiso Giants and Express basing on the Uganda premier league fixture had to be played on 11th November, 2023 before being postponed to 19th November and later brought forward to the 17th November. The Red Eagles also missed out on the Wankulukuku derby which against Villa on 1st November, they will hope get back to winning ways as the face the Purple Sharks.

Express will be without exciting midfielder Ramsey Kawooya who joined the Uganda Cranes camp in Morocco ahead of the 2026 FIFA World cup qualifiers games against Guinea and Somalia while Wakiso Giants have not been affected as they don’t have any player in the national team camp.

Wakiso Giants head into this game with two straight losses at the back of their heads, 3-0 against Vipers at Kitende and the other to Kitara 3-1.

For Express, they drew their last game 1-1 in an away fixture against UPDF in Bombo and they remain the only unbeaten team in the league.

At the moment, Wakiso Giants sit fifteenth on the Log with only 4 points in 6 matches while Express in the fifth position 11 points out of 5 games.
