Preview: Kitara to face NEC in Uganda Cup final

This Saturday, the Stanbic Uganda Cup 50th Edition final will be played between Kitara Football club and NEC FC at the Muteesa 2 stadium. Wankulukuku.

The two Uganda Cup final debutants have had a successful Uganda Premier League with Kitara finishing 4th, 6 points above their 6th positioned opponent, NEC.

Kitara commenced their uganda cup journey with a 1-2 win against Nebbi central in the round of 64, 2-0 win against Gaddafi in the round of 32, 2-0 win against nine time Uganda Cup champions, SC Villa.

The Masindi side knocked out the defending champions, Vipers in the quarter finals 5-4 in penalty shoot outs after a 2-2 all draw before defeating Pajule Lions 4-1 on aggregate to earn their first final.

NEC edged Northern division 1-2 in the round of 64, Acholi United 5-1 in the round of 32, Busoga United 0-1 in the round of 16 and Police fc 2-0 in the quarter finals.

In the semi finals, the die hards defeated the 2021/22 winners, BUL FC 3-1 on aggregate to progress to the finals.

Brian Sseyondo’s side scored 12 goals conceding 4 while Hussein Mbalangu’s boys scored 13 goals conceding only 3 on their way to the final with Dhata having the only hattrick in the edition.

In the 6 matches, each team has played to reach the final, Kitara had only 2 away fixtures, against Nebbi central, Pajule Lions in northern Uganda while NEC had 3 away games, against, Northern division FC Busoga United and BUL FC.

The main threat to NEC’s defense, Denis Omedi, Jude Ssemugabi, Kabon Living secured 28 league goals for Kitara.

NEC’s Cromwell Rwothomio, Joseph Dhata and Marvin Kavumba scored 20 league goals and they will be a threat to the Royals.

The victorious side earns 50M uganda shillings, 10 Zakayo balls and automatic participation in the CAF confideration league of 2024/25 season.

On the other side, the runners up will pocket 10 Zakayo balls and 25 million Uganda shillings.

The Last time a Uganda Cup final was hosted in Kampala was in 2016 and VipersSC beat Onduparaka FC to win their maiden trophy.
