The new domestic season gets underway on Saturday with Arsenal and Liverpool contesting the Community Shield at Wembley. The Touchline Sports takes a looks at what we should expect plus, more with our betting partner MelBet.

Community Shield: Arsenal vs Liverpool

Someone would say it’s too early for the Premier League season to return but someone else would say there was an unprecedented break from all sport and the return of the Premier League is just cover for the time lost – just let the games continue.

Arsenal won the FA Cup against Chelsea, coming back from a goal down to claim their 14th and a record FA Cup title in history while Liverpool also claimed their first Premier League title in 30 years.

There is more than just the result to place your bet on – There will be goals. Goals from both teams and early goals.

Liverpool and Arsenal have at least featured in two of the last three Community Shields. While both games ended in 1-all draws and decided by penalties, Liverpool did not find the success they needed in 2019. But Arsenal beat Chelsea two years earlier in 2017.

The past four matches between the two sides have had at least three goals, including the Gunners’ last 2-1 laugh at the Emirates in July.

The first game of the new season, the Community Shield, is always a cagey affair considering the fact that the last 3 years have not produced results with more two goals. However, with Liverpool and Arsenal involved, we should expect something else.

The past results, a 2-1 win, and a 1-1 draw in 2018 are not very exciting results but they are just two in the past 10 games between the two sides that haven’t produced at least four goals.

On the exciting end, there has been a ridiculous 5-5 draw in the League Cup last season, two 3-1 results, a 5-1, a 4-3, a 4-0, and two 3-3 draws.

With the two sides against each other, we have at least witnessed some mind-blowing ends to the game.

The last time Liverpool were involved in the community shield after winning the league, they endured a 4-3 defeat to Leeds United and here they are again.

With both clubs boasting excellent attacking lines – while their defenses may still be in pre-season mode and could be suspect to blackouts, expect goals to be scored – We predict an over 2.5.

According to Opta, Arsenal have in their last 13 games of the last campaign scored 14 first-half goals, 63.6% of their total tally. But they have also been found suspect with occasional blackouts at the back especially in the first half, accounting for 38.5% of the total they conceded.

Liverpool scored 19 goals altogether in 9 games towards the end of last season and10 of those came in the first half of matches which is 52.6% for the goals they conceded is 58.3% in the first half.

We expect both teams to score early in the first half.

Arsenal have been making the Wembley their home with wins against Manchester City and Chelsea in the FA Cup.

Arsenal have been almost perfect at the Wembley and have won 14 of their past 15 games there. Their last defeat at Wembley was in 2018 in the League Cup final to Manchester City but they have been successful and have won four FA Cups.

Arsenal are also pretty good when it comes to the Community Shield. They are a joint-second-most successful team, with 15 titles to their name – the same as opponents Liverpool.

Arsenal have won their past three Community Shield matches, last losing in 2005, and beat Liverpool in 2001.

We predict Arsenal to extend their glorious Wembley record
