National Rugby 7s: Rhinos, Black Pearls achieve Entebbe circuit excellence

Rhinos Rugby Club won the Entebbe circuit of the National 7s series after beating Buffaloes 17-05 on Sunday evening.

Having finished the opening half with a 12-00 score line in their favour, Rhinos’ Allan Olango was the man on everyone’s lips after his performance and good try scored under the uprights capitalizing on a Buffaloes mistake.

In the second half, Arnold Ocen added an advantage to the Namugogo based side’s score line with another try taking it to 17-00.

However in star man Tukei Aaron, Buffaloes pulled one try back to restore some hope but it wasn’t enough only to end it 17-05.

Rhinos reached the final after knocking out Jinja side Walukuba Rugby Club it the semis 14-05 since they had silenced the Hippos at the Quater final stage.

Action as Rhinos took on Walukuba in the semifinal.

Their opponents on the day, Buffaloes got into the final after winning against hosts Mongers 05-14.

Buffaloes tries came in from Odhaimbo Ivan and Otim Daniel who showcased his quick feet in and out to later dash to the try line not forgetting Conversions from Katerega Daniel and usual suspect Tukei Aaron in the opening half before Mongers had their only try in the second half.

In the battle for 5th place, Heathens RFC edged KOBs 10:07 KOB while the Defending champions of Black Pirates who will host the concluding leg of the National 7s finished 7th.

The Entebbe 7’s Circuit which started on Saturday was rounded up with the Most Valuable Player (MVP) accolade in the Mens side being Allan Olango from Rhinos Rugby Club while Womens side, Avengers’ Nassozi Maimuna taking it home.

On the women’s side – despite Nassozi being named as the MVP, her side lost 12-26 in the final against Black Pearls, a sister club to Black Pirates who went on to win the title.

Grace Auma drew first blood in the opening minutes of the game and Charlotte Mudoola later came in with extras to make the scoreline 07-00.

A few minutes to half time, Lydia Namabiro showcased her pace with a power run to the try line to push the Pearls score line to an advantage of 14-00 after the conversion, sending the game to half time.

In the second half, Peace Lekuru brought back some hope for the Avengers with a try but Auma had other idea as she restored her side’s margin to win the game 12-26.

The next National 7s circuit will be Mbale 7s set to be hosted by Mbale Elephants at Mbale Grounds from 17th to 18 August.

From the 24th to 25th of August, Thunderbirds will host Kyadondo 7s at Kyadondo.
