The development was confirmed by the club on Wednesday afternoon in a press release circulated after the close of the bidding process.
“Following the bidding process for the construction of the MTN – Omondi Stadium, we are pleased to inform the public that Sarjan Construction was selected as the contractors for the scheduled construction works,” part of the release read.
It should be noted that the government approved Shs. 10 billion for the construction of the stadium that meets international standards with UGX 2.5 billion expected to be released every financial year for the next four years.
The construction of the 8000 – 9000 capacity facility was meant to start in October 2020, but delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, which also directly failed the approval of the paperwork.
Following the appointment of Sarjan confirmation, work is expected to start soon (awaiting communication from the club) with the first phase of construction scheduled to last a period of 18 months.
The stadium is expected to meet international standards with the construction of the VIP wing in phase-one estimated to take 15-18 months before its completion, and will have about 3,600 seats.
