Duncan Mubiru, popularly known as Kikankane, strengthened his National Rally Championship (NRC) title ambitions after dominating the KCB NRC round 6 in Kyenjojo, winning five of the seven competitive stages to secure overall victory.
Mubiru, navigated by Lwanga Hamuza in a Ford Fiesta Proto, posted an impressive total time of 1:21:25.69 to claim the top spot, finishing 51.08 seconds ahead of championship leader Hassan Alwi, who partnered Musa Nsubuga in a similar Ford Fiesta Proto.
Alwi settled for second place in 1:22:16.77, while Jonas Kansiime and Ronald Bukenya completed the podium in third position with a time of 1:24:49.44 in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9.
Walter Kibande and Duncan Katumba finished fourth in their Subaru Impreza WRX after clocking 1:28:31.68, while Nasser Mutebi and Emmanuel Mugulusi rounded off the top five in another Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 with a time of 1:30:08.08.
Despite missing out on the Gulu rally victory, Alwi maintained his grip on the national championship standings, extending his tally to 255 points to remain comfortably at the summit.
Moses Lumala occupies second position with 165 points, while Mubiru’s Gulu triumph lifted him to third place with 163 points, just two behind Lumala. Kansiime is fourth with 162 points, keeping the battle for the remaining podium positions finely balanced.
Mubiru’s victory provides a significant boost to his championship campaign as he looks to close the gap on Alwi in the remaining rounds.
