Former SC Villa coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has been re-appointed Uganda Cranes head coach by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) replacing Irishman, Johnathan McKinstry and bringing an end to the locals’ reign that has been interim.
Police FC coach Abdallah Mubiru and Mbarara City’s Livingstone Mbabazi have been in charge of the Men’s football team for approximately three months since FUFA confirmed the sacking of the former Rwanda coach.
Micho returns to Uganda for a third stint, having recently left his role as Zambian national team head coach after a period of one year with the Chipolopolos.
After coaching managing SC Villa from 2002 to 2004, Micho was named Uganda Cranes head coach in 2013 and spent four years with the team until 2017 when he resigned his role for Frenchman Sebastien Desabre to take over. He immeidately joined South African Club Orlando Pirates.
Micho has been at many Clubs and National teams across the continent adding up to eleven coaching jobs across his coaching career.
He has been to Villa, Saint George SA (twice), Orlando Pirates(twice), Al Hilal Omdurman, Young Africans FC, Rwanda national team, Zamalek, Uganda national team and the Zambian national team.
Micho was the first coach that helped Uganda break the AFCON jinx when he helped Uganda qualify for the 2017 Nations Cup finals that were held in Gabon. The Cranes managed only a draw against Mali as their best result at the tournament. They lost to both Ghana and Egypt in their group D matches before finishing bottom of the group.
Micho returns at a time when the Cranes have returned to the hunt for some bit of luck after failing to make it to the 2021 Edition of the AFCON and having a number of Senior Cranes players calling time on their National team duties.
