Fresh off their league triumph, Mengo City returns to action in pursuit of a domestic double as they face Kabuusu Clouds in the Uganda Cup semifinals today at Old Kampala Futsal Arena.
Mengo City secured their semifinal spot after dominant wins over Lubaga Grameen in the round of 16 and Crown Lubiri in the quarterfinals. The reigning league champions will play the first semifinal at 5:00 PM.
Their opponents, Kabuusu Clouds, advanced past Motion Sports Academy and Busunju Spaks, with standout performances from Tony Ssemwegerere and Najib Muwonge, each scoring four goals in the tournament.
The second semifinal, set for 6:00 PM, will see defending Uganda Cup champions Park FC take on in-form Kisenyi FC. Park FC, who lost the league title to Mengo City, hope to retain at least one title this season. Their squad includes captain Shafic Mulangira (4 goals) and former FC Luzira star Joshua Aziku (3 goals), who lost last year’s final but now stands a chance to win it.
However, Kisenyi FC poses a major threat, with striker Ilyas Omran in red-hot form. Omran has scored in seven consecutive games and leads the Uganda Cup scoring chart with 12 goals in just four matches.
The semifinal winners will clash in the Uganda Cup final on Friday, May 23, at the same venue, while the losing teams will play in a third-place match.
That same day, the Betpawa Futsal Super League Frenzy Edition final will also be held at Old Kampala. Crown Lubiri will face Kisenyi FC, while Mengo City will take on QC Mbarara in the classification match.
