Masaza Cup: Tito Ssematimba fires Buddu into the final

Tito Ssematimba has fired Buddu to the 2020 Airtel Masaza Cup final after his early first half goal was enough to overcome Bulemezi in the semi-final game played at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on Thursday evening.

Buddu had the best start to the game they wished for when Titus Ssematimba broke the deadlock in the 4th minute after getting to the end of a brilliant Kavuma Marvin looped ball over the defence that found the youngster in the penalty area to control and carefully beat Bulemeezi’s Mugoye Haman.

In the 18th minute, Bulemeezi came close to levelling matters through Sulaiman Ssesazi but Farouk Yawe came good enough to parry the ball away for a corner kick.

Buddu almost doubled their lead in the 29th minute but Nsamba Fahad’s shot from outside the box was well parried away by Mugoye to keep his side in the lead of the game.

Just before the halftime break, Buddu’s head coach Lukyamuzi ‘Skills’ made his first substitution, bringing on Jibril Nsimbe for Marvin Kavuma who was stretchered off having been injured earlier on in the game.

The game went into the halftime break with 2016 champions holding a slim 1-0 lead over the defending champions.

At the start of the second half, Simon Mugerwa took off Thomas Kakaire for Ismail Kayondo as he was trying to chase the game and came close to getting it in the 59th minute after a last ditch tackle by Kizza Angelo denied Hakiramu Muzanyi any chance of shooting the ball into the back of the net with only Yawe to beat.

The defending champions tried their level best to find the leveller in the second half but all their serious attacks were well dealt with by the Buddu’s backline.

Buddu have now progressed to the final of this year’s tournament and will battle out with Gomba who defeated Busiro on penalties in the other semi-final.

Buddu defeated Gomba in the 2016 finals via penalty shootouts to lift their first title.
