The Crested Cranes fly to Morocco on Tuesday to camp for ten days before they go ahead to compete in the 2022 Total Energies AWCON tournament.
Uganda will play their first tournament game with Senegal on Sunday, July 3 at a competition that kicks off on Saturday, July 2 to Saturday, July 22.
Today at the FUFA House, Mengo Coach Hamza Lutalo has cut the team down from 30 to 23 players and then adding three players coming from abroad. The added players were Captain Ruth Aturo, Violah Nambi and Rita Kivumbi . Tracy Jones Akiror last time led the bunch of players that flew in from abroad joining; Fauzia Najjemba, Yudaya Nakayenze and goalkeeper Vanessa Edith Karungi.
The suprise name on this cut off list is 2019 Airtel FUFA Female Player of the Year and Uganda U20 starlet Juliet Nalukenge. From the sight of the physical percpective of this, it hasn’t been a suprise that Nalukenge has been left out Crested Cranes’ team despite the fact that she was in the CECAFA Squad that played in preparation of the 2022 AWCON at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru in June.
With some reports coming out to say that she is likely to join a club in Sweden, we await to see what next in her adventure. But the other six dropped players are; Goalkeeper Hadija Nalongo, Shiraz Natasha, Aluka Grace, Biira Nadunga, Samalie Nakachwa, Shadia Nankya with many slated to be dropped because of injuries.
This number has added to the six players that had already been dropped immediately after the CECAFA tournament. These players were as follows; Resty Nanziri, Halima Kayondo, Juliet Adeke, Viola Namuddu, Naome Nagadya and Miriam Ibunyu .
The Crested Cranes are pooled in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Burkina Faso, and Senegal.
