In a thrilling finale, Kitara FC emerged victorious in the 50th edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, defeating National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) FC 1-0 at the Muteesa II Stadium in Wakulukuku on Saturday evening.
The decisive moment came when Solomon Ali Okwalinga, who had 15 minutes came off the bench for Frank Zaga Tumwesigye, made a clever run into the box and tapped in Denis Omendi’s deflected strike in the 57th minute.
This goal marked Kitara’s first Uganda Cup title in their history, sparking wild celebrations among the team and their fans.
Both teams had created several chances throughout the game, but NEC’s Cromwell Rwothomio and Kitara’s Denis Omendi were unable to find the back of the net.
Rwothomio failed to find the target with his first goal attempt before he was twice denied by Kitara goalkeeper Jamil Kiyimba in either halves
While Omendi was wasteful when he got into scoring positions for Kitara.
NEC’s efforts to equalize late in the game were thwarted by Kitara’s solid defense, securing the win for the Royals.
This historic victory earns Kitara FC a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup next season – an achievement achieved on their first year back in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
