KCCA FC’s hopes of winning the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League title came to a disappointing end on Tuesday evening after they were held to a goalless draw by URA FC at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.

The result confirmed Vipers SC as champions, with the Venoms having done enough in their own fixture earlier in the day to move out of reach at the top of the table.

KCCA went into the match knowing only a win would keep their title chase alive, but they were instead frustrated by a disciplined URA side in a tightly contested encounter.

The game started cautiously, with both teams sitting deep and showing little urgency in attack during the opening stages. URA’s James Begisa created the first real threat in the 14th minute, but his effort from the edge of the box was blocked by Herbert Achayi.

Later in the first half, Begisa turned provider, setting up Aliro whose well-struck effort was brilliantly saved by KCCA goalkeeper Charles Lukwago in the 38th minute.

Just before halftime, Lukwago was nearly punished after failing to deal with a long ball, but Joseph Ssemujju could not convert the loose opportunity.

After the break, KCCA pushed for a breakthrough, with Joel Sserunjogi and Ashraf Mugume both going close, only to be denied by a superb double save from URA goalkeeper Muhamad Ssekkeba.

The game took another twist late on when URA right-back Justin Opiro was sent off for a second bookable offence, leaving the hosts with ten men. However, KCCA failed to capitalise on the numerical advantage.

The draw leaves KCCA second on 59 points after 29 matches, but the result effectively ends their title challenge, handing Vipers SC another league crown with a game to spare.
