KCCA FC have ended their co-coaching arrangement by appointing Brian Ssenyondo as the club’s sole head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season, marking a significant restructuring of the technical bench as the Cityzens prepare for a new campaign.

The announcement, made on Wednesday, sees Ssenyondo elevated after serving alongside Jackson Magera as co-coach during the 2025/26 season. The pair guided KCCA to a second-place finish in the Uganda Premier League, collecting 62 points from 30 matches as the Cityzens finished behind champions Vipers SC.

With the latest changes, Magera transitions to the role of first assistant coach, while Simeon Massa has been appointed second assistant coach, leaving Ssenyondo with full responsibility for the club’s technical direction.

The decision reflects KCCA’s confidence in Ssenyondo, whose first season at Lugogo saw the club mount a strong title challenge under the co-coaching setup. The club will now hope that placing him solely at the helm can help turn last season’s runners-up finish into championship success.

Away from the technical bench, KCCA also confirmed changes in the sports science department.

Fitness and conditioning coach Felix Ayobo has left the club to pursue further professional opportunities, with the Cityzens thanking him for his commitment and service during his time at Lugogo.

Replacing him is Ram Nyakana Mpuuga, who joins as the club’s new strength and conditioning coach.

Nyakana arrives with vast experience, having previously worked with the Uganda Cranes, SC Villa and Vipers SC. He also boasts strong academic credentials, holding qualifications in sports science, conditioning coaching and sports management from the University of Leipzig in Germany. His expertise in exercise physiology, rehabilitation and athletic load management is expected to bolster KCCA’s high-performance programme.

The appointments coincide with the start of KCCA’s pre-season preparations, which got underway on Wednesday, July 1, as the Cityzens begin laying the foundation for the 2026/27 season.

Having retained continuity while redefining the coaching hierarchy, KCCA will be hoping Ssenyondo can build on last season’s impressive league campaign and guide the 13-time league champions back to the summit of Ugandan football.
