The Federation of Uganda Football Association, FUFA has today confirmed the departure of the Uganda Cranes head coach Jonathan Mckinstry.

This was confirmed in a statement that was released on Monday morning by FUFA where the Ugandan federation said that they had reached an agreement with the North Irish International to end his stay.

“The Head Coach of the Uganda Men’s National team, Johnathan McKinstry, has today reached an agreement with FUFA to bring an end to his 18 months at the helm of the Uganda Cranes,” reads a statement from FUFA, in part.

“FUFA would like to thank Coach McKinstry and his staff for the work and dedication to developing the Uganda Cranes during their tenure.

“We would like to thank Coach McKinstry for the professionalism demonstrated during his employment with FUFA, and we wish him well in all his future endeavours.”

McKinstry who has been in charge of the National Team since September 2019 had signed a three-year contract that still has a running period of 17 months.

At the start of last month, he was asked to step aside by FUFA for a month following his dismal performance in 2020 CHAN and in AFCON qualifiers matches against South Sudan.

In his absence, his assistant Abdallah Mubiru alongside Charles Livingstone Mbabazi and goalkeeping coach Fred Kajoba Kisitu took charge of the Cranes’ for two qualifying games of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations against Burkina Faso and Malawi.

Mckinstry has been in charge of 18 games as the Cranes’ manager, won 12, drew and lost three.

FUFA is set to come up with the choice of the next coaches ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in June 2021.
