Itanda Kayakerz began their double-header day at the Lugogo Cricket Oval with a confident stride, chasing down Karuma Rapids’ total with an assured five-wicket victory.
Batting first, the Rapids posted a competitive 165 for 8 in 20 overs, thanks to steady contributions from Paul Mulongo, who scored 29 off 23 balls, and skipper Kenneth Waiswa with 28 from 20 deliveries.
Charles Musemeza and Lutaaya Ronald had provided early momentum, but regular wickets kept their innings from fully taking flight.
The Kayakerz bowlers maintained discipline throughout, with Abraiz Mir Ali and Siraje Nsubuga claiming two wickets each, complemented by Baidhu Ivan’s double strike.
Their efforts kept the total manageable, setting the stage for a composed chase.
Despite losing Simon Ssesazi on the very first ball, the innings was taken over by Perry Wazombe, whose blistering 70 off 40 balls, featuring six fours and five towering sixes, swung momentum decisively in Itanda’s favor.

Anas Baig supported her masterfully, remaining unbeaten on 41 off 32 balls, while Patel Devansh (15) and Pius Oloka (12*) ensured a comfortable finish in the 18th over.
The victory marked Itanda Kayakerz’s first win of the Waterfalls Women’s T20 Tournament, with Wazombe earning the Player of the Match award.
Yet the celebration was short-lived. In the afternoon, Bujjagali Rafters turned the tables in spectacular fashion, smashing a tournament-record 243 for 6 to crush the Kayakerz by 93 runs.
Electing to bat first, the Rafters unleashed a ferocious assault.
Fahad Mutagana provided a lightning start, but it was Robinson Obuya who stole the show, blasting 75 off just 31 balls, supported by Gerald Olipa’s powerful 52 off 28.

Late contributions from Robert Ajuna, Joseph Baguma, and unbeaten knocks from Richard Sohera and Simon Oketcho propelled the Rafters to the highest total in the tournament’s history.
Chasing 244, the Kayakerz struggled under relentless pressure.
Simon Ssesazi made 28, and Anas Baig fought bravely with 51, but wickets fell at regular intervals, leaving them at 150 for 8.
Tight bowling from Simon Oketcho, Sowobi Yunus, and Ali Balidawa ensured no late recovery was possible.
Robinson Obuya’s heroics earned him the Player of the Match, and the Rafters secured a commanding win, leaving Itanda to regroup for future encounters.
Tomorrow promises another grueling double-header for Karuma Rapids, who will face Bujjagali Rafters in the morning and return against Itanda Kayakerz in the afternoon, testing their depth, endurance, and resolve.
