Bujjagali Rafters experienced a day of cricketing extremes at Lugogo Cricket Oval on the opening day of the Waterfalls Men’s Elite T20 tournament, producing both the highest and lowest totals of the competition in a dramatic double-header.
The morning started as a showcase of their attacking flair.
Sent to bat against Itanda Kayakers under bright, the Rafters wasted no time asserting dominance.
Fahad Mutagana set the tone with a blistering 52 off just 27 balls, hammering five fours and four sixes in a rapid opening stand with Robinson Obuya, who added a fluent 39 from 28 deliveries.

Together, they raced to 92 for the first wicket in less than eight overs, laying a strong foundation. After Mutagana’s departure, Obuya and Olipa Gerald continued the charge before Obuya fell at 129/2 in the 11th over.
Gerald then took center stage, crafting an unbeaten 82 off 44 balls, punctuated with seven fours and six towering sixes.

Alongside Calvin Watuwa’s brisk 33 from 22 balls, the Rafters reached a formidable 221/3, the innings culminating with the final wicket on the very last delivery.
Chasing 222, the Kayakers never found a foothold. Early wickets tumbled in rapid succession, reducing them to 32/3 by the fifth over.
Though captain Christopher Kidega’s 47 off 24 balls offered a brief spark, it was too little, too late.
The Kayakers were bowled out for 108 in just 14 overs, as Baguma Joseph claimed four wickets for 19 and Sowobi Yunus chipped in with three for 21.
The Rafters’ 113-run victory was emphatic, and Gerald Olipa’s heroics earned him Player of the Match honors.
But the afternoon brought a stark reversal. Batting first against Karuma Rapids, the Rafters crumbled under relentless pressure.
Wickets fell from the outset, with Mutagana dismissed early and Obuya and Gerald unable to stabilize the innings.
Regular breakthroughs left them struggling at 23/3 within four overs, and despite small contributions from Simon Oketcho (15) and Yunus Sowobi (13), the Rafters were bowled out for a paltry 83 in 19 overs.
Karuma Rapids’ chase was composed. Though losing two early wickets, Charles Musemeza’s steady 33* and Cyrus Kakuru’s 26* guided them home, reaching 87/3 in just 10.4 overs.
Henry Ssenyondo’s incisive bowling, which claimed three wickets for 21, earned him Player of the Match honors and highlighted the Rapids’ clinical afternoon performance.
By the day’s end, the Bujjagali Rafters had experienced both the highs and lows of cricket dominance in the morning, collapse in the afternoon a day that perfectly mirrored the unpredictable drama of T20 cricket.
In tomorrow’s fixtures, Itanda Kayakerz will face a double header, taking on Karuma Rapids in the morning and Bujagali Rafters in the afternoon, as they aim to bounce back
