State Minister for Sport Hon. Hamson Obua says the Ministry is also shocked by the proposed budget cut on the funds allocated to sports.

Speaking to sports Federations and Associations via a zoom meeting hosted by NCS Chairman Dr. Donald Rukare, Minister Obua said he is still in shock after the budget to sport for the next financial year was announced cut.

“We are shocked and didn’t expect the cut so it’s a disadvantage to us now. But, we shall continue to engage with the speaker and parliament on those issues throughout the financial year.”

Obua said

“If there is an opportunity to raise it in supplementary expenditure we shall try .

He added.

It is expected that the National Council of Sports (NCS) will receive funding less that is less by over shs. 8bn for the next financial year from the shs. 25.5bn.

Sports activities were suspended in March due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. But, Minister Obua says the suspension on sports activities still stands and will only be lifted on two conditions.

“Suspension on sports activities will be lifted when Uganda contains the COVID-19 pandemic Or when the Ministry of Education and Sports has followed  all the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health”

This was the first-ever interactive online meeting between the NCS and it’s member Associations and Federations since sport was suspended.
