The Great Lakes Men’s T20 tournament is scheduled to get underway on Thursday, 12 June 2026, at the Lugogo Cricket Oval, with an exciting opening clash between Victoria Strikers and Bunyonyi Warriors.

This men’s edition follows shortly after the conclusion of the women’s tournament and brings together some of the country’s top cricket talent. The competition features a strong mix of senior national team players, Uganda A representatives, Emerging squad members, and Under-19 prospects, all coming together in a high-performance environment aimed at development and exposure.

Four franchises, Victoria Strikers, Kyoga Avengers, Bunyonyi Warriors, and Mburo Blasters will compete in the tournament. Each team draws its identity from prominent water bodies within the Great Lakes region, reflecting the cultural and geographical heritage of the area.

The event will be played in a triple round-robin format, meaning every side will face the others three times. At the end of the series, the team with the highest points tally will be crowned champions.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Cricket Uganda Head of High Performance and Pathways Richard Gideon Okia emphasized the importance of the competition in shaping player development.

He noted that the tournament provides a vital platform to test players following various training programs, while also encouraging interaction between experienced national team players and younger prospects. According to him, this environment is key in preparing athletes for future international assignments and the evolving demands of modern cricket.

With a blend of youth and experience across all squads, the Great Lakes Men’s T20 is expected to deliver competitive cricket while also serving as an important talent identification and development platform.

Fans who are unable to attend matches at Lugogo will still be able to follow the action, as all games will be streamed live throughout the tournament.
