In the opening match, Gold claimed a commanding 90-run victory over Sapphire. Later in the day, Emerald triumphed over Ruby by 7 wickets.

Sapphire’s captain, Cyrus Kakuru, won the toss and chose to bat first.

However, Gold’s opening partnership set a strong foundation, with Wassim Butt contributing 27 runs and Robinson Obuya just missing a half-century, scoring 49.

Oscar Manishimwe also added a valuable 36 runs, while Olipa Gerald (28) and Kenneth Waiswa (23) provided solid middle-order support.

Gold finished with a total of 191/8 after their allotted 20 overs.

Despite strong bowling performances from Calvin Watuwa and Henry Ssenyondo, who took 3 wickets each, Sapphire’s fielding let them down with dropped catches and misfields.

As a result, they were unable to chase down the target, finishing at just 101/9 in 20 overs.

Gold’s bowling attack, led by Balidawa Ali’s 4 wickets and support from Zappy Maurice Bimenyimana and Yunus Sowobi (2 wickets each), sealed the dominant 90-run victory for Gold.

In the afternoon match, Ruby batted first against Emerald.

Brian Asaba played a standout role, scoring the first half-century of the tournament with 50 runs.

However, he lacked sufficient support from the rest of the top and middle order, with Benjamin Baguma’s 33 runs off 31 balls being the only notable contribution.

Ruby ended their innings at 140/8 in 20 overs, with Baidu Ivan and Christopher Kidega taking 2 wickets each for Emerald.

Emerald’s chase was anchored by Ronald Lutaaya, who scored an elegant half-century (54).

Lutaaya well supported by a solid 61-run partnership with Charles Musemeza, helping Emerald reach the target in the 16th over, securing a 7-wicket win.

After matchday one, Gold tops the table, followed by Emerald in second place, Ruby in third, and Sapphire at the bottom.

Looking ahead to Match-day Two tomorrow, Gold will face off against Emerald in the morning, while Ruby will take on Sapphire in the afternoon
