Vipers SC secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Wakiso Giants in a tense Uganda Premier League clash on matchday 20, thanks to a decisive strike from their former player, Kenneth Kimera.

The first half saw both sides display tactical discipline but struggled to create clear-cut chances. However, the introduction of Kimera at the start of the second half turned the game in Vipers’ favor.

Just minutes after coming on, Kimera capitalized on a mistake by Hassan Ssenyonjo, latching onto a Frank Katongole long ball and cleverly lifting it over goalkeeper James Alitho to break the deadlock.

Out of respect for his former club, Kimera chose not to celebrate his first goal of the season.

Wakiso Giants fought back immediately, with Hudson Mbalire and Rahmat Ssenfuka coming close, but Vipers’ goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza pulled off brilliant saves to preserve the lead.

In the dying minutes, Mbalire missed a golden chance, failing to tap in Oyamo’s low cross into an empty net.

With the final whistle, Vipers completed a double over Wakiso Giants, staying at the top of the table with 49 points, five ahead of second-placed NEC. Meanwhile, Wakiso Giants remain 14th with 14 points, deep in relegation trouble.
