Fazila Ikwaput came off the bench to score the winning goal as Lady Doves secured their first ever FUFA Women Super League title after they defeated UCU Lady Cardinals 2-1 in the final played at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.
Ikwaput who started the game on the bench with a minor injury came on in the 77th minute to replace Joweria Nagadya with the scores tied at 1-all.
Moments before, Sandra Kisakye had equalised for UCU with a nice header that cancelled out Elizabeth Nakigozi’s first half strike.
With six minutes to the death of the game, the moment of the game arrived when Ikwaput controlled the ball, held off her marker, then wonderfully struck the ball with her right foot into the back of the net past Ruth Aturo and consequently hand her side their first title.
The result meant Lady Doves completed a revenge over UCU Lady Cardinals after the Doves lost the 2018/19 final 2-0 to to UCU at Lugogo.
This was also the second time the Lady Doves had beaten UCU Lady Cardinals 2-1 in this year’s tournament, after Ikwaput netted twice in group stages to earn her side the win.
Having netted in the final, Ikwaput finishes the tournament as the top scorer with eight goals in six games.
Lady Doves have also qualified to play in the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers in Kenya.
