Fazila Ikwaput continued her stunning form with Lady Doves by scoring twice in as the Doves rallied from a goal down to defeat UCU Lady Cardinals 2-1 at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on Wednesday.

The two sides came into this game occupying the two positions on the log, with Lady Doves on four points while UCU were on three points so much was at stake.

Both teams failed to create enough clinical chances early in the game until in 18th minute when the Cardinals were gifted a penalty by Rashid Nankya who hit Harriet Muwugumya in the face following a freekick.

Skipper Hasifah Nassuna stepped up and converted from the spot to put the Cardinals ahead.

But Ikwaput pulled her side level in the 31st minutes, capitalizing on the miscommunication between Shadia Nankya and Ruth Aturo to ran onto a through ball and round off Aturo in the UCU goal for the Doves’ equaliser.

Just before the break, Ikwaput could have handed her side the lead by Aturo made a excellent save to ensure the game went into recess with scores tied.

In the second half, both side pushed for a winner and it was the Doves that got it after Ikwaput forced  Shadia Nankya to bring her down in the forbidden area and hand her to leave the referee with no choice than to point to the spot.

Ikwaput stepped up to have the final say to the game, dispatching her spot kick hard past Aturo and into the left corner. Her seventh goal of the season proved to be the winner, earning Doves a crucial three points and a 2-1 win.

Lady Doves, who now sit comfortable at the summit of the log with seven points in three games will play She Corporates in the final game on Friday while UCU Lady Cardinals, who are on 3 points in two games have to play Olila High School and Isra SC in their two last group games.
