The 2023 Futsal Uganda Cup kick started off with a thriller as Edgars Youth Programme overcame Makerere University 6-2 at Old Kampala Futsal Arena on Friday night.
Edgars started off the game the brightest as they had three goals in the opening 10 minutes. Firstly Makerere’s Elvis Odong connected into his own net in the second minute, before three minutes afterwards, Waiswa Amiri doubled the lead with a superb strike.
The third came in the 10th minute after Brian Olwa calmy slotted home from close range.
Before the break though, Katuramu Deus scored a goal for Makerere to ensure his side went into the break trailing 3-1.
Katuramu got the first goal in the second quarter for Makerere to cut on the deficit heading into the last 10 minutes of the game.
In the second half, Edgars’ lead got cut to just a single goal after Katuramu netted his second for Makerere.
But this was short-lived as Edgars responded with three quick goal to win the game 6-2.
Firstly Ssemuyaba Joshua connected into his own goal before Olwa and Wambire Amos scored Edgars’ other two goals.
Edgars’ now take an early lead in group A with maximum points garnered in their opening game.
Action will continue next Friday at Old Kampala Futsal Arena with two group B games on the menu. Kabowa Dream Team will play First Touch Sports FC while ASKA will battle Friends of Football.
