Former players to engage CAF, FIFA over fraud in Ugandan football

Uganda’s former football players are contemplating engaging both international football governing bodies, CAF and FIFA over what they have termed as ‘continuous fraud’ in Ugandan football.

In an audio recording accessed by the website, Gibby Kalule, who is the General Secretary of an association that brings all former football players in Uganda, Ex International Footballers Association together, says it’s time to turn things around and fight the selfish and corrupt administration that is running football in Uganda.

“This is the time to turn things around. They have continued to breach all the FIFA Statutes,” he said.

According to Gibby, the former footballers are going to formulate a committee to engage both CAF and FIFA about how football is run in Uganda.

“How can we have an FA President who also belongs to a Specific political party and you think Football is going to be fair and impartial? Among the first things we are going to do is to form a committee that will engage both CAF and FIFA to make sure that this continued fraud in Ugandan football comes to an end.”

“We are seeing clubs powerless due to political interference in the governance of football and this can be seen in all dubious contractual agreements that have seen weak sponsorship packages enforced to clubs without approval plus seeing club representatives elected on league committee even though they are not affiliated to any club but for political reasons.”

“Thats kind of exploitation must come to an end. If the President of Uganda can allow John Katumba to run beside him, how is it possible that Magogo is a sole candidate and to qualify to run with him you must have exceptional qualifications? That is nonsense.”

“It’s time for a change. Uganda deserves better, we have hope in Patrice Motsepe as FIFA has continued to ignore the impunity in FUFA as many have believed that Mr Infantino has close ties with the FA President (Magogo) and that he can escape punishment for breaching FIFA statutes.”

The former players are under their umbrella body, the Ex-International Footballer Association which is a platform formed to establish a sustained system that empowers and tackles the welfare status of retired players.

Jackson Mayanja is the president of the Association while George Ssimwogerere is the vice.

Gibby Kalule is the General Secretary while Daniel Mubiru is the project manager.
