Good news for the further growth of women football organized leagues that started in 2015 as they got a new sponsor in Finance Trust Bank.
The bank has offered to give a two billion shillings (UGX 2,000,000,000) investment to womens football in partnership with FUFA for four years.
In addition to this deal, the football governing body (FUFA) has handed over title naming rights to the Ugandan bank.
Finance Trust Bank is also going to take on the naming rights of the Elite League which is well known as the second tier and all this is from effect of the 2024/25 season.
Ms. Annet Nakawunde Mulindwa, Finance Trust Bank Managing Director came out to say the sponsorship is in line with the banks mission of putting women first.
“Finance Trust Bank was first established in 1984 to support women in business and management to achieve their financial dreams.” She said
“The bank has grown since then and today we have a network of over 35 branches supporting over half a million women across the country.”
“We are excited to now extend our support to women in sports and I am pleased to formally announce Finance Trust Bank’s two billion shillings sponsorship of the FUFA Womens Football programme.” Mrs Nakawunde concluded
Under this partnership, one billion seven hundred thousand shillings (UGX 1,700,000,000) will be going directly to FUFA over a period of four years.
Three hundred fifty million per year (350m per annum) with the rest being spent on sponsorship activation.
FUFA President, Hon. Eng. Magogo Moses welcomed the sponsorship saying it is a validation of the success of FUFA’s women football programme.
A minimum of 25 clubs to benefit from this sponsorship in the upcoming 2024/25 Finance Trust Womens Super League and Finance Trust Womens Elite League that are set to kick-off at the end of September 2024.
Kawempe Muslim and She Corporates are the reigning champions of the Womens Super League and Elite League respectively.
