Gareth Bale scored late on in the game to deny the United States of America maximum points in their FIFA World Cup Group B opener.
Bale’s goal came with under 10 minutes to go, from the spot after he was carelessly fouled in the area by Walker Zimmerman.
The Wales skipper stepped up and hit his kick with too much power to beat Matt Turner, who had been excellent on the day.
Bale’s goal canceled out Timothy Weah first half opener after a brilliant ball by Christian Pulisic to set him through.
USA looked so sharp in the opening half but the second half belonged to Rob Pages’ men who pressed hard to level matters.
At the end of the day, the two sides split points. America will play England next on Friday when Wales have an Iran task to finish.
England earlier on whitewashed Iran 6-2 in the other group game.
