FIBA WOMEN AFROBASKET: Gazelles to represent Uganda at the finals

Despite losing to Egypt in the 2023 Afro Basketball Qualifiers final at the the MTN Arena, Lugogo, the Gazelles will represent Uganda at the FIBA women’s AfroBasket as per reliable sources.

The Gazelles book their ticket on the Wildcard tournament and will be among the teams to be hosted by Rwanda in the city of Kigali in July 2023.

This will be the first time the Ladies from Uganda  will return to the continental tournament since 2015, one that was played in West African nation, Cameroon in the City of Yaounde.

Having made their debut of Afrobasket in Kenya, 1997 the girls have missed the past three  editions in 2017, 2019 and 2021.

With Rwanda as hosts, the wild looked unlikely to go to Zone Five, which makes it three teams at Afrobasket from the region.

The four countries from Zone V in hosts, Rwanda, Egypt(Champion) and Uganda will join Nigeria, Senegal, Cameroon and Mali who automatically qualified.

The four qualified after they reached the semi-finals of the last edition in 2021.

The other teams will be determined from other Zones to make it final 12.
