FIBA 2023 World Cup African Qualifiers: Wainright, Kaluma left out as Silverbacks squad is named

Ishmail Wainright and Arthur Kaluma have been left out of Uganda Silverbacks squad for the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Qualifiers for the first window.

The first window of qualification will take place between 26-28 of November in Benguela, Angola.

Wainright has been been left out because of his busy Schedule with Phoenix Suns in NBA while Kaluma hasn’t been summoned due to his college engagements.

Just like Kaluma, Kieran Zziwa and Adam Seiko also miss out for the same reason.

Without the four players, Brandon Davies has been summoned, having last featured for Uganda at the 2019 FIBA Zone Five in Lugogo.

While Emmanuel Timothy, who is based in Germany has been summoned for the first time.

Seven local based players have been summoned and include Ivan Muhwezi, Peter Obleng, Fayad Baale, Jimmy Enabu, Tony Drileba, Titus Odeke, James Okello and Ben Komakech.

According to FUBA, the team will start preparations on November 12th at Africa Bible University, Lubowa before the squad will be trimmed to the final 12.

The Silverbacks will face Mali in their first Group A game on November 26 before Cape Verde and Nigeria on November 27 and 28 respectively.

Uganda has  to finish among the top three teams in Group A to advance to the second round where top three teams from all the four groups will be divided into two groups of six teams.
