Diaspora: Onen features in the FA Cup, Miya out and Bwomono assists – how Ugandan professionals fared over the weekend


Away from Uganda this weekend, many professionals were in action with Jayden Onen featuring in the FA Cup third round and Miya failing to make the squad for Konyaspor, while Elvis Bwomono assisted in his side’s only goal in the win against Barrow.

Here’s how Ugandan players abroad fared over the weekend.

In England, Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru started and featured for 76 minutes for Wycombe Wanderers as they claimed a 4-1 win over Preston North End in the FA CUP third round.

Still in the FA Cup, Jayden Onen featured full-time for Reading FC as they lost 1-0 to Luton Town.

In the English Football League Two, Elvis Bwomono featured full-time and grabbed an assist for the winning goal as his side, Southend United claimed a 1-0 win over Barrow AFC.

In Scotland, Bevis Mugabi started and played full-time for Motherwell FC in the 1-all with St. Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.

In Turkey, Farouk Miya never made the matchday squad for Konyaspor SC in the 2-1 loss to Fatih Karagümrük in the Turkish Super Ligue.

In Portugal, Alex Kakuba started and played full-time for Cova de Piedade as they suffered a narrow 2-1 loss to Vizela in the Portuguese LigaPro.

In the Czech Republic, Isaac Muleme featured for his side, Viktoria Zizkov as they lost 1-0 to Teplice FK in the club-friendly game ahead of the Czech National Football league.

In Egypt, Khalid Aucho started and played full-time for Misr Lel Makasa who claimed a 1-0 win over Aswan SC in the Egyptian Premier League.

Still in the Egyptian Premier League, Allan Kyambadde was a second-half substitute for El Gouna as they played out to a goalless stalemate with Ghazl El-Mahalla.

In South Africa, Denis Onyango started for Mamelodi Sundowns and was cautioned during their 2-0 win over Baroka Swallows FC in the DStv Premiership.

Still in the DSTV Premiership, Moses Waiswa was an unused substitute for Supersport United as they defeated TS Galaxy 3-0.

In Vietnam, Moses Oloya started and featured for 90 minutes as he helped his side, Hanoi FC win the Vietnamese Super Cup trophy after beating The Congs 1-0.

In India, Richard Kassaga featured full-time for Aizawl FC as they suffered a 1-0 loss to RoundGlass Punjab FC in the Hero I-league.

In Kenya, Benjamin Ochan started in goal for AFC Leopard as they suffered a 1-0 to Wazito FC in the Kenya Premier League.

Hashim Ssempala started and played full-time as his side, Tusker FC claimed a 1-0 win over Kakamega Boys.

In Tanzania, Taddeo Lwanga started and featured for Simba SC as they defeated Mtibwa Sugar 2-0 in the Mapinduzi Cup.

Still in the Mapinduzi Cup, Nicholas Wadada started and helped his side, Azam FC to claim a 1-0 win over Malindi.

In Zambia, Paul Musamali was absent from the Matchday squad as his side Buildcon  FC lost 2-1 to Red Arrows in the MTN/FAZ Super Ligue

In German, Herbert Bockhorn featured full-time for VFL Bochum as they claimed a 2-0 win over Jahn Regensburg in the Bundesliga 2.
