Talisman Anthony Ssekidde Masikirano struck his late penalty to the upright as Kooki were eliminated from the 2020 Masaza Cup following a 1-all draw with Bugerere in their final Masengere group match at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on Monday afternoon.

There was nothing much to report in the first half as both teams failed to break the deadlock in the opening half to ensure the game went into the break with scores tied.

In the second half, Bugerere set up for an early blitz and got the opener in he 56th minute after Geoffrey Gaganga headed off a well driven Walugembe Derrick’s corner.

Kooki levelled the matters in the 76th minute after a well neated David Okecho’s freekick from close to the center line found Jacob Othieno unmarked in the box, and the substitute rose high to notch in the equaliser from close range.

Kooki had a chance to take the lead after Assimwe Clinton was fouled in the forbidden area by Jafari Kaziro. Masikirano stepped up but agonizingly struck his effort to the upright with the Bugerere goalkeeper Otim Arafat well beaten.

Following today’s draw, Kooki has been eliminated from this year’s Masaza Cup having garnered just a point from their three games while Bugerere now move on four points and are on the verge of qualification to the knockout round.

The final Masengere group match will take place this evening with Mawokota taking on Kyadondo.

Mawokota has collected maximum points from their opening two games while Kyadondo currently sit third with three points.
