Diaspora: Kivumbi starts, Nakirya assists – how Ugandan players abroad fared over the weekend


It’s an international break where most of the leagues are off to enable players to take part in the international engagements with their respective countries. But, a handful of club football action continue and we are delighted that Ugandans’ clubs were involved – Here’s how Ugandan professionals fared over the weekend.

In Sweden, Ritah Kivumbi started and played the halftime as her Mallbacken IF suffered a 3-1 loss to Jitex Mölndal BK in the Swedish Elitettan.

Viola Nambi featured for 87 minutes and helped her Växjö DFF side claim a 1-0 away victory against Rosengård in the Swedish Damallsvenskan.

Mukisa Kenneth Mbayo was absent from the matchday squad as Team TG FF lost 1-0 to IF Brommapojkarna in the Swedish Division 3.

In England, Elvis Bwomono who is with the Uganda Cranes team, was absent as his Southend United FC side claimed a 1-0 win over 10-men Walsall in the English league two.

In the USA, Joanne Nakirya featured and provided an assist for Kelsey Henry as her MACU wrapped up their 2020 fall season with a 3-0 win over Southwestern Assembly of God in the NCCAA National Championships.

In the Czech Republic, Isaac Muleme came on in the 60th minute and got a yellow card as his Viktoria Zizkov side lost 2-0 at home to Fotbal Třinec in the Czech National Football league.

In Portugal, Alex Kakuba came on in 83rd minute as his side, Cova de Piedade suffered a humiliating 5-1 loss to Estoril Praia In the Portuguese LigaPro.

In Scotland, 3 weeks after injury setback, Bevis Mugabi returned to individual training for Motherwell on Thursday ahead of their Scottish Premiership clash next weekend against St.Johnson.
