The Uganda Under 23 team will be targeting a bright start to their CECAFA campaign when they play guests Democratic Republic of Congo at Bahir Dar international Stadium in Ethiopia.
Uganda will be attempting to defend the CECAFA title they won for a record 15th time in Kampala, two years ago.
Heading into this tournament, the Uganda Kobs had a training camp in Saudi Arabia where they played two practice games against the Saudi Arabia Under 23 team, losing one and drawing the other.
While for Congo, this is their maiden appearance in the CECAFA regional tournament after they withdrew from the 2019 tournament in Uganda.
This will be the fourth meeting between any Ugandan national football side and Congo with Uganda holding a slight advantage, winning two of the three.
The last meeting was at the 2019 AFCON finals in Egypt where the Uganda Cranes defeated DR Congo 2-0 in a group Agane at the Cairo International Stadium.
Uganda Kobs head coach Morley Byekwaso is expected to name the same starting lineup as that played in the two practice games in Saudi Arabia.
Uganda is pitted in group A alongside Tanzania and DR Congo.
The best top teams in each of the groups will automatically qualify for the semi finals, while the best runner up from any of the three groups also gets to the last four.
