CECAFA U20: Uganda beat Sudan to qualify for AFCON U20 finals

The Uganda Under 20 Men’s Football Team, The Hippos secured a vital 2-0 victory over hosts Sudan in the semi-finals of the CECAFA U20 Championship ( AFCON U20 Zonal Qualifiers) to book their spot at the 2023 AFCON U20 tournament in Egypt next year.

Isma Mugulusi and Rogers Torach scored to enable the Uganda Hippos achieve the prestigious feat.

This is the second successive time Uganda is making it to the AFCON U20 finals having made it to the 2021 AFCON tournament in Mauritania where they were beaten by Ghana in the final.

After a fruitless opening half, Torach broke the deadlock off Rogers Mugisha’s freekick in the 55th minute.

Mugulusi made it two for Uganda in the 70th minute after he received a through pass from Mugisha to round off the on-rushing Sudanese goalkeeper and score into an empty net.

With qualification already secured, the Hippos will now look beat South Sudan in the final on Friday to win the CECAFA tournament. South Sudan defeated Ethiopia 4-2 in spotkicks after a 2-all fulltime stalemate.
