Shree Sahajanand have reached the Super 8 of the Boys Schools Cricket Week unbeaten, keeping alive their hopes of winning a first Cricket Week title.
The Central region champions completed their Group D campaign with a 100 percent record after beating Kasese SS by five wickets on Wednesday morning.
Kasese were bowled out for 63 for nine, before Shree Sahajanand reached 64 for five to seal another win.
The result continues an impressive run for Shree Sahajanand, who reached the semifinals last year and now hope to go a step further.
They will, however, face tougher opposition in the Super 8, where they must maintain the same consistency if they are to challenge for the title.
Debutants Lango College are also expected to join them from Group D.
Defending champions Busoga College Mwiri also secured their Super 8 place after extending their unbeaten run in Group A to four matches.
Mwiri beat Ntare School by 57 runs before completing a 10-wicket victory over KC Butiki. The record winners are now chasing a 21st Cricket Week title.
Ntare remain second in Group A, although Gulu High School and Kiira College Butiki can still challenge for qualification in the final group games.
Masaka SSS remain unbeaten in Group B and are assured of finishing top after beating St John’s Kauga by two wickets. St John’s had already secured their Super 8 place despite the defeat.
In Group C, Jinja SSS and debutants Soroti SSS have secured qualification. Jinja beat Uganda Martyrs by eight wickets before dismissing hosts Nyakasura by 10 wickets.
Soroti have impressed on their first Cricket Week appearance and will enter the Super 8 as one of the tournament’s dark horses. Nyakasura’s failure to qualify will be a disappointment for the home crowd.
The final group matches will be played on Wednesday morning before the Super 8 begins.
The eight teams will be divided into two groups of four, with the top two from each group advancing to the semifinals. The tournament ends on Saturday.
