The third day of the Great Lakes Men’s T20 Championship at Lugogo Cricket Oval produced another entertaining round of action, with Kyoga Avengers registering their third consecutive victory before Mburo Blasters continued their impressive campaign through a dominant run chase led by captain Riazat Ali Shah.

Kyoga Avengers Overcome Bunyonyi Warriors

Kyoga Avengers posted a challenging 163/7 after being sent in to bat, thanks largely to a strong finish from their middle order.

After the early dismissal of Conrad Lubwama for 5, Julius Okema steadied the innings with a patient 37 from 45 balls. Robert Owili contributed 25 off 18 deliveries, while Junaid Khan added 13.

The innings accelerated in the closing overs as Juma Miyaji struck a quick-fire 20 off 9 balls before Derrick Bakunzi produced a match-defining unbeaten knock of 45 from just 22 deliveries, including five boundaries and three sixes.

For Bunyonyi Warriors, Devansh Patel and Rayan Tendo each claimed two wickets but were unable to prevent the late assault.

In pursuit of 164, Bunyonyi Warriors mounted a competitive challenge through Devansh Patel’s 30 and Fred Achelam’s 37. However, timely breakthroughs from Kyoga’s bowlers kept the chase under control.

Junaid Khan and Richard Agamire picked up two wickets each, while Dan Keith Amani added a crucial scalp. Abu Seguya’s unbeaten 43 provided late resistance, but Bunyonyi closed on 142/6, handing Kyoga a 21-run victory.

Bakunzi’s explosive innings and overall influence earned him the Player of the Match accolade.

Riazat Leads Mburo Blasters to Another Convincing Win

The afternoon encounter saw Mburo Blasters continue their fine form with a comprehensive eight-wicket triumph over Victoria Strikers.

Victoria Strikers struggled to build substantial partnerships despite useful contributions from Pius Oloka, who struck 34 off 16 balls, Amos Ahurra with 25 off 18, and Bosco Akena’s unbeaten 22.

Mburo’s bowlers maintained control throughout the innings, with Shehran Ali returning figures of three wickets while Brighton Muganzi collected two. Riazat Ali Shah also made an early impact by removing Simon Ssesazi as Victoria were bowled out for 130 in 18 overs.

Chasing 131, Mburo Blasters approached the target aggressively. Charles Musemeza provided an early spark before Shehzad Khan and Riazat Ali Shah took charge of proceedings.

Shehzad remained unbeaten on 54 from 32 balls, while Riazat continued his outstanding tournament form with an unbeaten 54 off just 30 deliveries, featuring six fours and three sixes. Their unbroken partnership guided Mburo to 135/2 with 47 balls to spare.

Riazat’s contribution with both bat and ball earned him the Player of the Match award and further strengthened his credentials as one of the tournament’s standout performers.
