U20 girl's Volleyball Championship - Uganda requests for withdrawal of rights

The newly elected executive committee of Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) has called for the postponement of the U20 girl’s volleyball championships which Uganda was set to host this February, else move it to another country.

In a letter addressed to the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB), the new UVF president Sadik Nasiwu urged that the African Body to allow the postponement of the tournament to a later date or move it to another country because they have failed to beat the deadline set by the National Council of Sports (NCS) to all Federations that will be hosting international events.

Nasiwu highlighted the reason for the failure to beat the time and as a result, requested that the tournament be postponed or moved to another country.

“In reference to the above, we are struggling to settle in the federation and the handover is very slow putting into consideration the tournament above is 2-weeks away. Coupled with requirements of hosting the event in my country.

We are requesting for the tournament to be postponed for at least two (2) months, but if it’s not possible it can be pushed to another country. Uganda remains committed to participating in this qualifiers.”

The NCS as of the 4th of January 2021 addressed a letter to the previous UVF president Hadija Namada have dossiers submitted for further management.

‘As you may be aware in my earlier circular dated 27th October 2020 to all registered and recognized National Sports Federations/Associations (copy attached) all potential National Federations with interest to host any international sports fixtures or events are required to notify NCS and submit ALL DOSSIERS for further management and onward submission to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Sports who shall prepare a cabinet paper on the same,’ part of the letter read.

The letter concluded with a deadline.

“Forward accompanying dossiers with clear details of the events, budget, sources of income, details of the National Organising Committee respectively before 22nd January 2021.”

However, there was still no communication to this effect by the 23rd of January 2021, which is partly attributed to the delayed transition in administration brought about by the elections that involved a change of the executive.

The U20 Girl’s Volleyball championships to which Uganda are the hosts is slated to take place from the 18th of February to the 26th February.

The winner of Women’s U-20 Nation’s championship will represent Africa at the 2021 FIVB U20 World Championship.

Nasiwu who was elected into office last month will now focus on the special AGM set for 28th February 2021 in Lugogo and thereafter kick start implementing elements in his manifesto.
