Abubakar Mayanja scored a stunner in extra time to guide KCCA U20 team to the Cambiasso Rainbow U20 title after defeating Azam FC 1-0 at the Azam Sports Complex in Tanzania.
Abubakar’s goal came with three minutes left on the clock in extra time to propel his side to a prestigious title.
The KCCA striker pounced in from close range after initial Ally Hassan mis-clearance hit the crossbar and rebounded back into play for Abubakar to finish off and send his teammates into celebrations.
Despite 90 minutes ending into a goalless draw, KCCA were dominant as they created chance after chance but they were denied on multiple occasions by Anthony Remmy, the Azam goalkeeper.
In the first half, Mawejje Jovan saw his effort rattle the crossbar but he was brilliantly denied by Remmy.
While also the Azam custodian made excellent saves to deny Ibrahim Juma and Abubakar in the second half.
Azam, who played much of the game on the back foot got a rare chance to win the game in extra time before KCCA scored, but Clement Kabela failed to find the target after coming up one on one with KCCA goalie Opio Abraham.
For his impressive performance in the tournament, Andrew Kawooya was voted as the Cambiasso Rainbow U20 tournament Most Valuable Player while Azam’s Cyplian Kachwele took the golden boot for scoring the most goals.
