Uganda capped off a flawless campaign in the Women’s Easter T20 Cup with a hard-fought 11-run victory over USA, sealing the title in emphatic style at Entebbe Cricket Oval.

The hosts remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, showcasing consistency, discipline, and growing tactical maturity across both batting and bowling departments.

Put in to bat, Uganda posted 101/5 in their 20 overs, a total built on captain Janet Mbabazi’s composed 31 off 36 balls.

Rita Musamali provided stability with an unbeaten 21, while Esther Iloku added 14 to keep the innings steady in the middle overs.

A late burst from Malisa Ariokot, who struck 13 off just five deliveries, gave Uganda the momentum they needed to push past the 100-run mark.

In reply, USA started the chase well but unfortunately were restricted to 90 all out in 19 overs. Immaculate Nakisuuyi delivered a match-winning spell, claiming a superb four-wicket haul to be named Player of the Match.

Irene Mutonyi also played a key supporting role with three wickets, as Uganda’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure.

Consylate Aweko and Mbabazi complemented the attack with tight, disciplined spells that denied USA any room to build partnerships.

USA’s resistance briefly flickered through Isani Mahesh Vaghela (19) and Sainavi Kambalapalli (18), but a lack of sustained partnerships ultimately derailed their chase.

Uganda’s sharp fielding and control in the final overs ensured they closed out the contest with authority.

Uganda finished the tournament unbeaten, collecting 13 points from seven matches, with six wins and one abandoned fixture.

Their campaign featured key victories over USA and Uganda A, often defending modest totals through disciplined bowling, smart rotations, and composure under pressure.

The unbeaten run not only secured the title but also highlighted Uganda’s growing depth, resilience, and tactical awareness, firmly establishing them as the standout side of the competition.

Unbeaten Uganda clinch the Easter Women’s T20 Cup title

In the same tournament, Uganda A ended their Easter Women’s T20 Cup campaign at Entebbe without a win, but with valuable lessons for future development.

They fell to USA by 20 runs in a rain-shortened encounter and later lost to Uganda by 37 runs.

Led by Phiona Egaru Kulume, the side combined youth and experience, with Jimia Abdallah Mohammed top-scoring with 63 runs across the tournament. Lorna Anyait impressed with the ball, taking seven wickets, supported by Asumin Akurut’s five.

While batting inconsistency remained a challenge, Uganda A gained crucial exposure that will aid their development pathway, helping bridge the gap between junior and senior cricket within the national setup.

For USA, the tournament also offered important learning opportunities ahead of the ICC Women’s Challenge Trophy.

They open their campaign against Nepal at 1:00pm Kigali time at Gahanga Oval, with the team looking to apply lessons learned in East African conditions after valuable match practice in Entebbe.
