The long wait comes to an end this Saturday as the inaugural Boundary Banters T20 League gets underway, with Rounders facing Centurion in the opening match at Entebbe Cricket Oval.

The competition, introduced by Cricket Uganda, aims to provide more playing opportunities for teams available on Saturdays, blending competitive cricket with a relaxed, social atmosphere.

It offers a fresh approach outside the traditional league structures, ensuring players remain active and engaged.

The idea for the tournament emerged from discussions between Cricket Uganda and various clubs, all united by a shared goal of increasing game time and strengthening collaboration within the cricket community.

Under the agreed framework, Cricket Uganda will handle ground preparation, while participating teams will share matchday expenses, including officials and match balls.

Five teams have signed up for this inaugural edition: Rounders, Centurion, Africa Cricket Club, Tornado Bees, and Mukono Development.

The format follows a single round-robin structure, with each team playing the others once.

Matchdays will feature two games, and the team that tops the standings at the end will be crowned champions.

Adding a unique edge to the tournament is its flexible squad policy.

Teams are allowed to rotate players and even include cricketers from non-participating clubs, creating an inclusive platform for experimentation and broader participation.

Speaking ahead of the opener, Zulu Walaza, one of the managers and key figures behind the revival of Rounders, praised the initiative and expressed optimism about the team’s preparations.

I would love to thank Cricket Uganda for the coordination efforts that the team at the secretariat has put in to ensure this tournament goes ahead as planned

he said.

There’s real excitement in our camp.

We’ve received the fixtures and we’re looking forward to getting things started this weekend against our comrades Centurion

he added.

Beyond the results, the league presents a valuable opportunity for interaction across divisions.

Top-tier sides like Tornado Bees and Rounders can test combinations, while developing teams such as Centurion, Africa Cricket Club, and Mukono Development gain exposure against stronger opposition.

The Boundary Banters Tournament represents more than just matches on the field.

By promoting shared responsibility and increasing playing opportunities, it nurtures unity, collaboration, and growth within the game.

As the first ball is bowled this Saturday, a new chapter of social yet competitive cricket begins.
