2023 FIBA Women AfroBasket: Gazelles fall to Rwanda


The Uganda Women Basketball team the Gazelles fall to the hosts of Rwanda at the BK Arena in Kigali.

The Gazelles lost by a tight margin of five points with a projected scoreline of 61-66 Rwanda.

In a game, where Uganda started cruising in the opening quater with a 22-11 scoreline The Gazelles looked too good for the hosts.

But in the second quarter, lost a bit of steam to edge it, only a point away from Rwanda and the there on Uganda didn’t recover to end both the third and fourth quarter in defeat.

However at the end Uganda showed a fighting spirit but it was a little bit too late.

Jannon Otto contributed 31 points, the highest by a Gazelle against Rwanda and Melissa Akullu came in second as she added a total 16pts.

Rwanda will proceed to the semifinals as the Gazelles will now fight for 5th place in classification games.
