On Tuesday afternoon, both the players and officials delegation from the 2023 ISF WSC football championship in Morocco safely returned home, landing at the Entebbe international Airport.
The delegation that included three schools; St Noa Girls School – Zzana, Kibuli S.S and Amus College was welcomed back by the Uganda Secondary School Sports Association (USSSA) officials, family members, school students, friends, well-wishers and the media personalities.
However, with all aside the St Noa Girls Zzana stood out as the students brought fourth immense love as they appeared at the airport in style.
The Zzana side won bronze medals at the Championship after finishing third when they beat Germany 2-0 to the third-place play-off during girl’s tournament that had 28 country schools.
From the airport all the students were led by president Emeritus Patrick Okanya to a luncheon at Imperial Golf View Hotel-Entebbe.
At the luncheon the delegates were joined by the USSSA president Justus Mugisha, CEO Chris Mugisha, Commissioner of physical education -sports Rev. Duncans Mugumya and Ismael Mulindwa, who represented the permanent secretary in the ministry of education and sports.
Mulindwa welcomed back the delegation and also was happy with all the officials that accompanied the team to include Members of Parliament, ASHUU president Brother Augustine Mugabo, USSSA officials, school administrators and the coaches and asked the different teams to prepare for the upcoming FEASSSA Games in Rwanda.
After the luncheon, all the schools proceeded to their schools but St Noa Girls School – Zzana who came in an open roof tourists’ vehicle made an alarming statement as they made a procession along Entebbe road right to the school.
With a welcome dinner staged at the school the bronze medalists were humbled more by the fellow students with brief speeches from the team leaders.
The school Principal Hebert Walusimbi showered praise on te players and USSSA saying;
“Thank you for the good representation, you represented the school and country very well”
“Even though we managed to win a bronze medal, I for one was fully satisfied with your performance”
“We left a mark in Morocco and I can assure you that everyone appreciated your talent with many not believing a small country like Uganda can have such talent.”
“I appreciate our parents, USSSA and government for enabling à succès journey to and from Morocco.”
After the dinner, the students were attracted by music in the school centre gardens to enjoy their victory and dance off their school stress.
Next year’s 2024 ISF WSC football championship will be hosted by the Girls Champions (China) in the city of Dalia in May.
