The 2025 Uganda Hockey League is set to begin with a thrilling start after League fixtures and Uganda Cup draws were unveiled at Sideline Restaurant in Lugogo on Saturday morning, setting the stage for an exciting season.
Opening Weekend Fixtures
The league officially kicks off on Saturday, March 1, with an exciting set of matches. In the men’s division, WSC Wabalozi will take on Thunders at 1 pm, marking the season’s first showdown.
The women’s league game will follow with an eagerly anticipated clash between Makerere and Wananchi HDF at 2:30 pm.
Other key opening day fixtures include:
- Men: Weatherhead vs. Rockets – 4:00 pm
- Women: WHC Diamonds vs. Wananchi – 5:15 pm
The action will carry over into Sunday, March 2, with five matches lined up:
- Women: Weatherhead vs. Deliverance Church – 11:00 am
- Men: WHC Titans vs. Badgers – 12:30 pm
- Women: Kampala vs. Thunders – 2:00 pm
- Men: Makerere vs. KHC Originals – 3:30 pm
- Men: Wananchi vs. Kampala – 5:00 pm
With these matchups, the tone for the season will be set, and fans can expect a high level of competition from the get-go.
Reigning champions Wananchi will be the team to beat after dominating the 2024 National Hockey League in both men’s and women’s divisions.
Star players like Janet Nakato, last season’s women’s top scorer with 27 goals, and Jordan Achaye, the men’s leading scorer with 30 goals, will look to maintain their dominance.
Uganda Cup Fixtures
In addition to league play, teams will also battle for the Uganda Cup, further intensifying the 2025 season.
