Brian Rugyendo: We will definitely be stronger for the NBL in 2024

Tropical Royals Head coach Brian Rugyendo is optimistic that they have what it takes to bounce back quickly from the Division one if they keep their squad together.

The Royals are down and out of the National Basketball League after losing to Ndejje University Angels on Wednesday to complete relegation line up after just a season.

The relegation list of the 2022 campaign is made up of teams like Falcons basketball Club, New entrants Victoria University and Warriors who pulled out.

After the game Rugyendo came out to express his readiness to return to the National Basketball League as soon as possible saying;

We have eight wins and I think we would be 11th this season but Warriors pulled out, so they kept 13 teams and they are relegated 4 teams so that means we are automatically among the teams that have to be relegated and go down that’s what the loss means to us.

I think it’s been a good season for us, a lot ot exposure, a lot of experience picked up, many of my players about 90% are first timers in the NBL and I think they have picked up a lot of knowledge, experience and tuffened up a bit. The basketball being played in the NBL is not the same as that in the lower divisions.

So I believe that if we go back to the lower divisions as we are supposed to do, I believe we will be a tuffer and put up a good fight down there and still be able to come back up after one season.

For now, would like to keep the entire team together if possible because they have grown together, learnt a lot together because I believe that if we went down with the same team with a few additions obviously we will definitely be stronger for the NBL in 2024.

They fell just ten(10) points short of their opponents Ndejje University Angels to make up a 75-85 scoreline at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.

The Tropical Royals have had a poor second round something that has leaned on their failure to boost the squad that helped them get relegated to the top flight league.

The Tropical Royals have had a poor second round something that has leaned on their failure to boost the squad that helped them get relegated to the top flight league.

In the first round, it was hard to seen them put a foot wrong on court, winning 8 games. On Wednesday, they faced a well prepared Ndejje side who arrived earlier at the Arena something that was counted as the smallest detail but very important

Tropical Royals will play their last game of the campaign against UCU Canons on Friday, a game that will have no impact since they can nolonger finish above at least three teams.
