Blacks Power FC head coach Bob Obira has expressed his delight after his team eliminated Uganda Premier League (UPL) side NEC FC from the ongoing Stanbic Uganda Cup.

The FUFA Big League outfit secured an impressive 2-0 victory on Tuesday, advancing to the last 16 of the competition.

Second-half goals from Innocent Maduka and youngster Joshua Omara sealed the win for the Lira-based side, marking a significant achievement in their strong campaign.

Blacks Power FC, currently second in the FUFA Big League standings, demonstrated their tactical discipline and adaptability under Obira’s leadership.

Speaking after the game, Bob Obira highlighted his team’s preparation challenges but credited their adaptability and tactical awareness for the victory.

Preparation Challenges and Tactical Execution

“We didn’t train a lot for the game because we started training on Monday. Today was the seventh day of playing football since we broke off after the first round. But we managed to come here and get the three points we wanted,” Obira revealed.

Despite limited training time, his team executed their game plan efficiently, displaying resilience and strategic discipline.

Turning the Heat into an Advantage

Obira emphasized how Blacks Power’s familiarity with playing in extreme heat conditions worked to their advantage.

“When you go to Lira, we always train in the sun. We start from 10 am up to 1 pm. Three hours of training, then we break off. So we are used to the sun. And the sun in Lira is so hot, more than here.”

Their ability to withstand and thrive in harsh weather conditions proved crucial in securing the victory.

Knowing the Opponent

A key factor in their triumph was Obira’s deep knowledge of NEC FC and their head coach, who previously managed Blacks Power. This familiarity allowed them to prepare a winning strategy.

“We executed our game plan because we know these guys. Their coach was formerly with Blacks Power, so we understand his system of play and how he organizes his team. We came here knowing exactly what to do.”

Obira also highlighted his team’s tactical versatility, stating:

“Whenever we play, we adjust our tactics. We are always flexible, and we have players who can do what is needed to win games.”

His confidence in the squad was unwavering as he boldly declared:

“We are going to beat anybody who comes around.”

Ambition for the Uganda Cup Trophy

Beyond just advancing in the Uganda Cup, Obira made it clear that the team’s ultimate goal is to bring the prestigious trophy home.

“We need the Uganda Cup trophy. We need it in Lira.”

With their place secured in the last 16 of the competition, Blacks Power FC now turns their attention to their next FUFA Big League fixture.

They will face Arua Hill at Pece Stadium on Sunday, March 2, as they continue their pursuit of promotion to the Uganda Premier League.
