Amidst a huge crowd at the Pele stadium in Rwanda, the Uganda Women national team (Crested Cranes) edged Rwanda on Sunday.

The highly contested game ended 1-0 in favor of Uganda courtsey of a Fazila Ikwaput strike after great work by midfielder Joan Nabirye.

Ikwaput ‘s strike came in the 10th minute of first half – extra time(100th of the game) to put Uganda past Rwanda into the next round of 2024 Olympics qualification stage.

This meant that at the next round, Uganda will face Cameroon.

After the hard fought game, Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja (in her voice) congratulated the girls promised them a token of $200 each ;

“I would like to say congratulations, You are a very powerful team, I was following every step and you were perfect”

“On behalf half of Uganda Government, I promise we are going to make sure you are facilitated to the dot.’”

“As of today I want to give at least 200 dollars to each of you.”

The Prime minster wasn’t the only one who congratulated the girls but also reknown women football fan and speaker of Ugandan Parliament the Rt. Hon. Anitah Among who came out with statement on her social media page saying;

“Congratulations to the CrestedCranes! We are proud of your triumph today and look forward to the 2024 Women’s Olympic football tournament. You have what it takes to get there.”
