Wanderers Cricket Club won first silverware in 11 years after thinly edging past Rounders with a three(3) runs win at the Lugogo Cricket Oval on Sunday afternoon.
The Indigenous Cricket Club managed to set a 99/10 score in the first innings, going on to restrict Rounders to a 96/10 in 16.5 Overs.
Magwa Arthur caught the game’s all important and final wicket after Collins Okwalinga skied the ball to the cover point.
Didier Ndikwibimana (27) was at the helm of the team’s scorers chat, and Abu Seguya (19) made some contribution to the low team total of 99 in 17.2 overs while David Mwesigwa (3/19), Narinder Singh (3/23) and Richard Sohera (2/6) combined to pick up eight wickets.
In the second (2) innings, Rounders raised hopes of their fans but failed to build a strong partnership, losing avoidable wickets consistently.
The MOTM Martin Akayezu (5/22) was the stand-out bowler for Wanderers and Arthur Magwa (3/19) provided the support.
With at-most pressure into that 16th Over, Wanderers managed pick up the result that gave them their first title in 11 years even in the absence of their Captain Ivan Kakande.
To get here, Wanderers battled through tough encounters, first knocking out Division 1 league champions Kutchi Tigers in the quarterfinals before edging past Ceylon Lions in the semis.
This easily brings one to a conclusion that It was a good season for Wanderers who finished second in the men’s 50-Over League and iced it up with a T20 League victory
Rounders, on the other hand, who survived a close quarterfinal clash against Nyakasura before cruising past Tornado in the semifinals missed out on qualification to the top flight but in the end had a great season despite falling short of the T20 title.
