The USSSA Elite games kicked off on Thursday 25th January 2024 in Jinja City, featuring seven teams who are in a quest for gold.
Kawempe Muslim Secondary School had a good start, collecting 4 points in their first two games.
Kawempe secured a 2-1 win over Jinja College in their opening match and earned a crucial 1-1 draw against the resilient Bukedea Comprehensive.
In the other games, defending champions, Standard High School Zzana had an early exit to the tournament after losing 2-1 to Westville High School in group B
Westville through Oloyo Mustafa were up and running early in the game, and despite STAHIZA’s efforts to equalize, goalkeeper Baluku stood strong, denying the defending champions.
Emmanuel Onyango extended Westville’s lead just before half-time. However STAHIZA managed to pull one back through Mwebaze’s penalty kick, but it wasn’t enough.
Jinja Progressive Academy and Westville High School advance to the semi-finals, setting up a crucial encounter in their final group game.
In Group A, Kawempe Muslim will a good chance of reaching the semi-finals if they secure a point in their final group game against Jinja Secondary School, who have already secured 6 points.
For Bukedea, they need a convincing win against Jinja College and hope Jinja Secondary School defeat Kawempe Muslim.
The will action continues on Friday 26th with five scheduled games, including the highly anticipated semi-finals.
