Uganda Premier League
- URA 1-0 KCCA
KCCA’s woes deepened on Wednesday night as they suffered their third consecutive defeat, falling 1-0 to a resilient URA FC side at Nakivubo’s Hamz Stadium. The match, evenly balanced for large stretches, was ultimately decided by a moment of brilliance and tactical savvy from the Tax Collectors.
Both sides started with urgency and intent, sharing possession and carving out chances in an evenly contested first half. URA’s James Begisa threatened twice with powerful drives, only to be denied by KCCA goalkeeper Mutwalib Mugolofa, who was sharp throughout the opening 45 minutes. Meanwhile, Joseph Semujju had a near miss for URA, his shot deflected wide in one of the half’s closest moments.
KCCA weren’t without chances of their own. Derrick Nsibambi will rue his missed opportunities especially a gilt-edged one inside the box following a teasing delivery from Shafic Kwikiriza. The striker’s misfire summed up KCCA’s night in front of goal.
But the second half belonged to URA not through dominance but through clinical execution. In the 65th minute, head coach Alex Isabirye made a decisive move, bringing on John Innocent Kisolo for Norman Namanya. The change injected energy and urgency into URA’s midfield, and just 12 minutes later, it paid off.
Laban Tibita, ever the creative spark, picked out Kisolo with a clever ball into the box. The young substitute took one touch and rifled home a low shot past Mugolofa to send the home crowd into raptures. It was Kisolo’s moment and URA’s match-winner.
KCCA threw bodies forward in search of an equalizer, but their efforts were snuffed out by URA’s disciplined backline. At the final whistle, frustration was etched across the face of interim coach Jackson Magera whose early tenure has now begun with back-to-back defeats.
The win marked URA’s fourth consecutive victory, lifting them to 42 points, firmly placing them fourth on the log and keeping faint title hopes alive. For KCCA, it was their eighth loss of the season and they now languish in seventh place on 34 points, a far cry from the title-chasing form expected of the Lugogo giants.
