NEC outshined KCCA, picking a 2-0 win on Matchday One of the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Saturday.
A goal in each half from Richard Basangwa and second half substitute Pius Obuya gave NEC the victory.
Basangwa slotted the ball past goalkeeper Mutwalibu Mugolofa off a perfect pass from James Jarieko as early as the fifth minute.
Obuya, who had replaced Enrique Lubwama with 20 minutes to play, scored the second goal for NEC.
Elsewhere, Entebbe UPPC edged the reigning champions Vipers 1-0 at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Friday.
Defender Kevin Bady Dasylva scored an own goal past how one goalkeeper Mbaba after a teasing delivery from roving left back Thomas Ochungu down the flank in the 32nd minute.
In other Saturday fixtures, Lugazi overcame debutants Kigezi Home Boyz 2-1 at their Najjembe fortress.
Police edged Mbarara City 1-0 at Kira Road Police Arena courtesy of Ivan Mayanja’s strike.
Blacks Power smiled past Ntungasaze 1-0 in Hoima with Andrea Noll Ogwal on target, whilst the contest between Sports Club Villa and Kitara ended in a one-all draw at the Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
Andrew Okumu gave SC Villa the lead in the 5th minute, with Chrispus Asiki grabbing the equalizer in the 5th minute of added time.
Matchday one concludes on Sunday, 30th August 2026 with two games on the card. BUL takes on Express at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, and Maroons shall play host to URA at the Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
