  • Wakiso Giants 1-1 SC Villa

SC Villa’s struggles on the road continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Wakiso Giants in the second round opener of the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League season at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.

Despite their dominance at home, the Jogoos have failed to replicate the same form away, and Tuesday’s result extended their winless streak on the road this season.

The visitors initially took the lead in the 23rd minute when Aslam Ssemakula headed in a well-delivered cross from David Owori after a quick exchange with Hassan Mubiru.

SC Villa could have doubled their advantage early in the second half, but goalkeeper James Alitho denied Owori’s strike with a crucial save.

Wakiso Giants capitalized on Villa’s missed chances and equalized in the 60th minute.

Timothy Oyamo’s cross led to a defensive mishap by Villa goalkeeper Norman Agundifiru, and after Musa Ssegujja’s header hit the crossbar, Hudson Mbalire was well-placed to tap in the rebound.

Villa had opportunities to reclaim the lead, notably in the 71st minute when Andrew Otim failed to bypass Alitho in a one-on-one situation.

However, Wakiso Giants held firm to secure a vital point.

The result leaves SC Villa 8th on the table with 21 points, while Wakiso Giants remain in the relegation zone, sitting 14th with 13 points.
